The design of this print has its origins in traditional tree of life embroideries, which were originally made as palampores, or bed hangings, and were exported to Europe from India beginning in the eighteenth century. Reproduced from an original Schumacher hand block linen print from the 1930's, this print depicts a stylized flowering tree interspersed with fanciful birds and animals. It has now been interpreted on a linen twill ground with a soft hand that is particularly suitable for curtains, but also applicable for upholstery use. Colorations derived from crewel embroideries and tapestries offer hues that are rich and exotic while the softer neutral shades are perfect for interiors with a more modern approach.
